Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can a PETSFIT hiking pack hold?

Every pack in the WILDPATH hiking series carries pets up to 15 lbs. The dual-pet model carries two extra-small pets up to 8 lbs each (max 10 in tall), or one pet up to 15 lbs. Weigh and measure your pet before ordering — going over the rated limit puts stress on the frame and straps and makes the pack unstable on uneven ground.

Is it safe for a pet to ride in a backpack? How long can they stay inside?

Yes, when the pack fits and your pet is comfortable in it. Ventilation matters most — WILDPATH packs use mesh panels on multiple sides so air keeps moving. As a general guideline, stop and let your pet out every 30–45 minutes to stretch, drink, and reset. Watch for panting, restlessness, or refusing to get back in — those are signs to end the trip early.

How do I know if my pet fits?

Weight is only half of it. Measure your pet’s length from nose to base of tail and their height at the shoulder, then compare both against the dimensions listed on the product page. Your pet should be able to sit up, turn around, and lie down without pressing against the sides. If your pet is between sizes, size up.

Do these packs work for cats?

Yes — cats ride in these packs as often as small dogs do. Cats usually need a longer adjustment period than dogs, so start indoors and keep the first outings short. The top opening lets a confident cat sit up and look around, while the mesh windows keep a nervous cat enclosed and calm.

How do I get my pet used to a carrier backpack?

Start indoors with the pack open on the floor and a treat inside — let them go in on their own. Then close it briefly while you stay nearby. Then short walks around the house, then around the block. Most pets need several sessions across a few days before their first real outing. Don’t make the first trip a long hike.

Are these packs airline approved?

The WILDPATH hiking series is built for trails, not cabin travel. Airline size limits vary by carrier and aircraft, so check with your airline directly before flying. If cabin travel is your main use, look at our airline-focused carriers instead.

All four packs hold 15 lbs — so how do I choose?

Since the weight limit is the same across the series, pick by how you actually use it. Day hikes with gear → the multi-compartment pack. Long days on the trail → the waterproof TPU base and padded straps. Two small pets → the dual-pet pack with a zippered divider. Lightest on your own back → the 3.5 lb model, or the 3.9 lb entry pack.
