Our previous backpack and the Petsfit one are very similar in shape and mesh windows positions, which is so perfect for us that this is why I chose this specific Wildpath model over an other. Thus, I can make a comparison from previous experience and I can tell that this one was carefully designed with both the human use and the small companion comfort in mind. After several hikes with this Petsfit Wildpath backpack, both my cat and I are so happy with it.\n The adjustable straps and buckles everywhere, the hip belt and the padded back make it gentler on the human's back and the overall posture. The pocket, base compartment (which is indeed waterproof) and bottom straps can hold a lot of things at once, which allows me to bring many items for my cat (food, water, long leash, foldable bowl, snacks, kibbles...) and whatever I need for myself (spare clothing, water bottle, tissues, own snacks, basic first aid, sunglasses, strapping my jacket at the bottom so I don't have to carry it by hand when I don't need it...).\n So many smaller features also make a big difference: the strap & button that allow to roll and keep tight the top panel cover (our old backpack only has a velcro that is very worn out now, which doesn't happen with a button), the fact that you can open the small left side window, the strengthening stick included inside that you put across the top of the front panel so that it doesn't fold down when you pet leans on the top edges (which was a recurring and damaging problem on our old backpack), the top/front buckles that make sure the top cover stays in place when it's raining or windy (the water-repellant fabric does its job pretty well btw), all the small places where you can clip a carabiner onto, the fact that the front panel isn't entirely mesh so that the animal isn't completely exposed to sight from behind...\n The only feature I haven't used yet is the pole holders, but giving the quality of the rest, I have no doubt they are as handy.\n I also customized the backpack the same way than our older one by lightly sewing fabric panels inside, against 2 out of 4 windows (counting the top one), that can be rolled up and secured with safety pins. My cat can feel entirely safe in crowded environment or public transportations to the hiking trails, or when we are walking on popular trails and people follow us (then, I only close the front curtain and leave the side one open).\n I keep using our old backpack for travelling (especially by plane) or short strolls, as it is smaller and lighter, and use the Wildpath backpack for longer outdoor adventures. Hers was the most important vote. The other details sold me - slip-over strap for topping my carry-on, extra pocket, light weight, flexible structure, durable zippers, washable fleece mat cover, etc. I bought the S because it's the only one which'll fit international flights, and slid it under the 8\" space under business class seats on Air Canada. We flew LAX to Toronto, a fairly long time for her to be in a carrier, so I added a pee-absorbant Poochpad folded to fit between her fleece board and the waterproof carrier bottom. Before we flew, i left the carrier open for her to inspect and daily threw her favorite treats in there, to make it a positive experience for her. She was as good as can be, by the time we got to actually flying. Thank you, Petsfit - this carrier was excellently designed and we've used it for 3 roundtrips since Feb 1.
